Making EV Charging Easier for Dublin Residents

As more people make the switch to electric vehicles, the lack of charging options, especially in older residential areas without off-street parking, remains a major barrier for many. This is something I’ve been pushing hard to address.

The good news is that real progress is finally on the horizon. The Government has now published legislation that will allow for the privatisation of EV charging wires, enabling third parties to legally install electric cables across public paths. This is a critical step in making home charging more accessible for Dubliners.

In response, I am bringing a motion to Dublin City Council calling for the preparation of a clear action plan, so that once the legislation is enacted, the Council is ready to move quickly. My goal is simple: residents who want to install an EV charger outside their home should be able to do so through a straightforward and seamless process, without unnecessary planning hurdles or restrictive regulations.

This is about removing red tape and enabling real climate action at the local level. I will continue working with the Council and relevant agencies to ensure that Dublin does not fall further behind, and that residents who are ready to go electric are supported, not stalled.
