Reforming Dublin City Council: A New Vision for Local Government
One of the most important things I’ve worked on this year is a new plan to fix how Dublin is governed. Right now, too many key decisions are often made within a system that lacks direct political accountability.
In response, I’ve authored a comprehensive policy that puts forward a clear vision for a more effective and accountable Dublin City Council. It focuses on practical reforms, giving elected representatives real decision-making power, improving day-to-day governance, and giving Dublin more control over how it raises and spends its own money.
This is my contribution to a debate that too often gets reduced to headlines and soundbites. Real reform needs substance, and that’s what this plan delivers.
I’ll be submitting this proposal to the Local Democracy Taskforce as part of their national review. My goal is to make sure Dubliners get a local government that’s built to lead, not just to manage. And over the coming years, I’ll be working to make that vision a reality.
